Changes Consignment Clothing & Jewellery Bar

Words by Kari

Ladies, admit it: We’ve all had moments when our wardrobes left us feeling kind of blah.
Or we’ve been silly and bought something that didn’t fit, but figured it would later (and it still doesn’t!).
This morning, didn’t you pick something up off the bedroom floor and think, “This would totally get worn if I knew what to put on with it!”

Poof! Changes Clothing & Jewellery Bar is the fabulous answer to all of your clothing issues.

In September of 1997, owner and visionary Rhonda Davis invented a safe, empowering and delightfully sparkly fashion haven for Vancouverites, and, with her team, continues to smash through judgement and misperceptions about consignment while wowing clients. Fortunately for Calgarians, Rhonda’s mother, Barbara Davis, opened the first Changes location in back in1987, which enabled Changes Vancouver to open, so we all owe her a big high-five.

Why people might view consignment in a negative light is a real head-scratcher. It reduces the demand for new clothing, which cuts back on the usage of harmful chemical dyes, the excessive production of non-sustainable textiles, and lets you sleep a little better at night because where you shop can make it clear that slave labour is not acceptable. As consumers, our dollars speak louder than anything, and we have the power to make a huge impact environmentally, ethically, and financially. In addition, half of Changes’ stock is new items on consignment, including fantastic samples from local designers (Neto Leather, French Laundry, French Spy, and Sweet Soul), jewellery from local and Canadian artists, and spectacular designer pieces that are being cleared for other businesses. On top of all that, consignment can make your wallet grow, so you can continue to buy and sell at our store, and outfit yourself in affordable and stylish pieces while donating to charities for women.

Our store?

Yes. I am a Changes Chick, very proudly so, and our constant mission is to create a win-win with our clients (both shoppers and consignors), our team, the environment, our community, and our charities. We currently sponsor a woman in Rwanda (via Women For Women International) who is learning business skills, and Changes donates to other charities as well, including local women’s shelters, Amnesty International, and we have adopted a tiger from the World Wildlife Fund. They’re probably not going to let me borrow and use it as an attack cat, but I’m all right with it. Working with our team and clientele has proven nothing short of amazing. We encounter women from all walks of life in our store, of all ages, shapes, sizes, professions, life stages, and I’ve never worked for a place before that connected so strongly with its customers. We are sisters, friends, and family.

Changes has been selected as Best Consignment Store by Vancouver Courier readers for 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, is always accepting consignments by appointment. We look for items that are in-season, fashion-forward and trendy, bought within the past year from medium to higher-end labels, and that are in perfect condition. For more details see here.

From personal wardrobe styling sessions (Diva Dens) to yummy presents to custom jewellery to gift certificates, there are plenty of ways to shop, consign, devour, and empower. And do check out our gorgeous new online shop (a destination for fashionable insomniacs)! While you’re there, don’t forget to sign up for our juicy private e-mail newsletter, which gives you all the details about consignment seasons, hot new arrivals, upcoming events (our sold-out Sex & The City fashion show fundraiser was a sassy success!), and best of all, coupons! Don’t you love it when a store makes money for you, offers great deals, and then saves you even more?

Well, you would if they did.

Aren’t you inspired? Time to start rifling through your closet, because Changes Good!
