Models clad in a black, blue, silver, and white palette swaggered down the runway to songs from Public Enemy’s “Fear of a Black Planet” album during the G.V.G.V. Spring/Summer ’10 collection show. Designer MUG seemed to reference the very culture that listened to Public Enemy back in 1989 with bustiers and cat suits embellished with metal studs paired with boleros and jackets. The overall, popular also during that time, was emulated in both tight and loose styles, the latter in a loose silver satin piece and the former in black and pastel blue stretch denim, in an Azzedine Alaïa-esque style.
Billowing blouses with square spike studs on the shoulders gave the collection an edgy feel that had a feminine touch. The femme fatale look was completed with necklaces and belts composed of thin metal rods that made a sharp tinkling sound as the models walked. White and black metal studded heels and an extra-wide bracelet with metal spikes added to this look as well. Strong, rebellious, and sensual, MUG’s collection was a fine pairing to PE’s legendary tracks.
