Presenting her collection on an all-male model line-up for her Spring/Summer ’10 collection, ODRADEK designer Demian Celica Kanou created an interesting approach to the way jewellery and accessories are worn.
ODRADEK is a menswear line, and the pieces shown had a certain delicacy that is most often seen in women’s garments, something that was a welcome breath of fresh air to the usual level of masculinity in menswear. However, the show winners were really the jewellery pieces, as they seemed to take almost all the attention away from the clothes. They were centrepieces to each outfit indeed.
For the duration of the show, models entered and left the runway in a nearly all-black wardrobe sporting necklaces, brooches, and rings made of leather, pearls, stones, and other materials. A certain royal quality was given to some pieces with the addition of pearls placed in a diamond pattern on shirts, as well as dotted over white converse shoes. One splendid piece (left) seemed to be the result of a hand plunging into the depths of an old jewellery box and placing the tangled contents on a broach backing to be worn as such. The effect was quite stunning—made more so by Kanou’s stark palette of black and white.
The resulting look that the male models inspired, with their manly strutting and sparkling limbs and chests, was a captivating juxtaposition of male and female aesthetics—and the jewellery box brooch being held in place by a kind of holster made it even more so. Only the reappearance of a certain piece on the runway and a couple of misses in the timing of the models would deter one from pronouncing Kanou’s collection show to be superb.
Kanou indeed created a collection of beautiful pieces that any woman would surely feel their best in and now—any adventurous man.
