Keeping Time Fashionably with Dior

Words by Nadia Chu. All photos provided by Holt Renfrew unless otherwise indicated.

The scene was pure summer elegance at Dior in Holt Renfrew last Thursday, as Dior launched the debut of their 2010 timepieces collection in Vancouver. Creamy yellow flowers, champagne, and diamonds set the tone as guests mingled and admired the timepieces in the cases. A Dior representative was present
Bernadette Morra & Rebecca Tay to explain the details of where and how the timepieces are made, assuring us that not only were these beautifully designed accessories, but these were exceptionally high quality timepieces.

Acting editor-in-chief of FASHION magazine Bernadette Morra was the special guest and presenter at the event, and she began her speech with a congratulation to Dior designer John Galliano for his receipt of the Legion of Honour award just the day before. As she outlined the history of the house of Dior and the contributions that both Christian Dior and John Galliano have made to fashion, there was no doubt in my mind that the couture sense of craftsmanship and quality the house is known for will now be embodied in their timepieces as well.

One particularly outstanding timepiece sparkled too brightly for me to just admire within the case, so I took the great pleasure of trying on a watch whose face was completely covered in 4 carats worth of diamonds. An elegant black satin band perfectly complemented the incredible sparkle of the watch. These are special timepieces that beautifully marry function and fashion, and can be passed on to daughters or granddaughters (if you are willing to part with them) with the same sense of tradition and timeless elegance that defines the house of Dior.
