Everyone knows that Vancouver is one of the most ecologically-minded cities in the world: from cellphones made from recycled plastic to fashion that is sustainable inside and out. We recycle paper, plastic, glass, and metal without a second’s thought. But what of compost? Not everyone has access to a composting solution, especially in the most urban parts of our city.
Long-time friends Lisa von Sturmer and Andrew Sutherland’s Growing City could very well be the answer to that compost question. Their service consists of providing their clients with a “Compo-Capsule” bin, which is once a week emptied, cleaned, and freshened. The organic waste collected is then taken to be composted.
Growing City combines Lisa and Andrew’s passion for urban sustainability, healthy living and community involvement. Besides running their burgeoning business, Andrew and Lisa speak at conferences, trade shows, and community events. Lisa and Andrew are proud to be part of the Green Advisory Board for the first Vancouver Eco Fashion Week, sitting alongside principles from WGSN (Worth Global Style Network) and the David Suzuki Foundation. They are also excited to be the faces of the Canadian Youth Foundation’s national promotional campaign with Fokus Media Internet Media Kiosks.
Actively being ecological keeps the heart light and the aura positive–and both Lisa and Andrew radiate the effects of all the good Karma they have accumulated. This is clearly visible in the photos below, where they both celebrate the city during this most Olympic time (Paralympic Winter Games begin this Friday!) and green local fashion designers.
