“September is the January of fashion,” drawled Candy Pratts Price, the just appointed creative director for the new Vogue site launching next Tuesday, on the now famous documentary The September Issue. With that quote in mind, String Magazine has set off to deliver a “Fashion New Year” issue that will be covering all that is exciting this month locally and internationally. With the help of our friends over at Style.com, weekly updates of all the major fashion weeks around the world will be summarized in our newly introduced events coverage series: String Magazine’s Fashion Week Picks. In our second editorial of the month, Zenaida Kwong photographs Minnie from Richards Model Management in an array of accessories, styled by our own Kathy Nguyen, who shows us a new way pins, necklaces, and even shoes can be worn.
Naming String Magazine’s September issue simply that sets the bar for what is to come throughout the month in our editorial calendar, with our constant goal of challenging our readers with interesting and thought-provoking stories.
Below is a sneak-peek of some of the features that will be published throughout the month listed in the order they will be released in.
Gray Skies: photographed by Alan Chan. Our feature September editorial portrays the beginning of fall in a mysterious, yet optimistic view.
A stunning beauty editorial shot by Eydis Einarsdottir that really puts in focus the abilities of local talents, Negar Hooshmand, Katrina Molson, and Deanna Palkowski.
The BYOB (build your own book) workshop at John Casablancas brings us another edition of photos by the top students in the hair, makeup, and fashion programs.
A portrait of Beautiful Canadian Laser and Skin Care Clinic and an introduction to our new series: The Beauty Experiment where beauty editor Jeanette Schwarz tries products and, in this case, procedures before you have to.
The accessory is the point of focus in this month’s second editorial, where conventional ways of wearing them are thrown out the window and brought back in refreshed.
Gentille Alouette in Gastown is a haven for local designers and the people who love them, as well as a creative outlet for owner and staff to unleash their genius on garments, jewellery, and other accessories.
From the start to the end and everything in between, Vancouver favourite handbag designer Erin Templeton, lets it all out during a Q&A session with String Magazine.
Eco Fashion Week Vancouver is setting the bar and it’s setting it high for designers, buyers, and media. Exciting features to the week like seminars and shows for internationally recognized brands make this event a must-see.
Oceandrive Leather gets a visit from String Magazine’s Alexia Anastasiou, who will report back in detail about just who is behind the local leather work and design expert.
Cottage Days makes music long-distance, only made possible by the wonders of technology. A guitar riff sent through email, vocals sent back, and a song is created miles apart.
Old never seems “old” when the “new” looks so much like it. The books featured this month develop on that idea and bring us an array of retro, vintage, and ancient styles that have survived to this day–reformed.
