Watch: Kiss & Makeup Owner Talks Style

Words and Photos by Maria.

There was a time for boutique Kiss & Makeup when only skincare and cosmetics were on its shelves, and a limited number of accessories was part of its stock. Things changed, however, when Kiss & Makeup owner Heather Huntingford and her team decided to move the store to a bigger space, and include not only more accessories, skincare and cosmetics, but also an appetizing array of shoes and apparel from local and international designers.

“It was just a natural progression,” states Huntingford about the change, “We had branched a little bit into bags and accessories in the other store [but we] realized that we were already styling our clients. We’d say to them, ‘you need to go here to get these shoes, over there to get a top,’ so we just thought it was time to start bringing some items in ourselves.”

Consequently, Kiss & Makeup has become a one-stop-shop for wardrobe treasure-seekers, where they can get a complete look from a classic red lipstick to a pair of cute moccasins. Huntingford has chosen her repertoire of products wisely, creating a rather stylish and posh selection—minus any pretention.

“We’re pretty unintimidating, which is nice,” Huntingford explains, “Cosmetics and skincare can have that element because it’s so personal that it’s hard to be approachable.”

Five years and counting have passed since the store first opened its doors in West Vancouver, but is it the one and only business venture Huntingford is willing to take on? The answer is no, but Huntingford is divulging nothing when it comes to getting the details on what her next ideal store location is.

“That’s top secret; I can’t tell you that!” she exclaims, “You can publish that; I’m not telling!”

She leaves us wondering, but content for now with what Kiss & Makeup has in store. To see for yourself exactly what that may be, click here for String Magazine’s Style Bubble feature on the boutique or visit them in person at H5 – 925 Main Street, The Villlage in Park Royal, West Vancouver.
